Judgment & Favor in Genesis 6:1-8
Our pastor preached on Genesis 6:1-8, which is our introduction to Noah and the flood story. The passage is a picture of God’s grief over an increasingly rebellious world. It is also a picture of God’s grace as He shows favor on undeserving Noah and His family. The story is an encouragement that even in times when some churches may be shrinking and compromising, God has always preserved a faithful people through which He later brings revival. We will respond to that message with the amazing hymn, How Sweet and Awesome is the Place, in which Isaac Watts (1674–1748) provides the appropriate response we may have when we reach the Lord’s Table and wonder at the favor He has shown us by inviting us.
