From a Garden to a City: The Ordinance of Work in Gen 1:26-2:25

This Sunday was the first of three Sundays we considered the Creation Ordinances (Laws) that God gave Adam and Eve on the 6th and 7th day of creation—even before their fall into sin. Each ordinance is worthy of its on sermon because each play a huge role in our day to day lives. The creation ordinances are as follows:

  • This week examined God’s ordinance to work. We considered that God meant work to be a blessing and that even after the curse of the fall, work continues to be a blessing when we work as unto the Lord. We also considered the folly that we create when we use work to serve other purposes. The bulletin is posted here.

  • Next week we will look at the closely related ordinance of rest and the blessing that comes when we cease our work to rest and worship.

  • On the third week, we will look at the ordinance on marriage.
