Confirming Your Calling

calendar_today April 25, 2022

We continued to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection. Robert Hasler, a pastoral candidate in our Presbytery, preached on how the Christian may have assurance of their salvation from 2 Peter 1:3-11. Durig the service, the congregation sang a psalm, a traditional hymn, and a recent hymn.

  • The Psalm was Psalm 98, “Now with Joyful Exultation.” When we sing a psalm, we are singing God’s Word from Israel’s hymnal–songs our Savior sang when He worshiped His Father in synagogues and at the Temple.

  • The Traditional Hymn was Lord, With Glowing Heart I Praise Thee by DC resident Francis Scott Key, who composed our National Anthem and this hymn that reflects his fervent love for Christ. Fun fact: the tune was written in 1839 by Lowell Mason, the organist at Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah, which had a large hand in the planting of our church.

  • The Recent Hymn will be Yet Not I, But Christ in Me by the Australian musicians from St Paul Anglican Church in Sydney known as City Alight.

The bulletin is posted here.
