Longing for the Consolation of Israel (Simeon’s Song)
In Luke 2:21-38, we see an account of the prophets Simeon and Anna patiently waiting for the birth of the Lord’s Christ, the consolation of Israel. After many years, when they finally saw the infant Christ, they rejoiced that the Lord had finally sent a Redeemer to save and comfort his people. Israel was filled with expectant longing for the consolation that Christ was bringing and still brings. This passage may encourage us as we long for the same.
