Christians Are Works in Progress in Jonah 4
If the Holy Spirit had ended the book of Jonah at the end of chapter 3 and the revival in Nineveh, it would have been a nice, tidy ending. In Chapter 4, we learn that while Jonah was outwardly obedient in chapter 3, he was inwardly a mess of conflict, hypocrisy, and sin. Chapter 4 teaches us that God is not satisfied with outward obedience alone. And just as God pursued Jonah during his public disobedience in Chapter 1, God continues to pursue Jonah’s heart in Chapter 4 to transform Jonah’s heart to be more like His so that Jonah will love the nations as God loves the nations.
