“How Do I Bear Fruit?” The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree in Luke 13:1-9

To bear fruit in this world, people and churches must be connected to Christ through the ordinary means of grace (the Word, prayer, and the sacraments). In this parable, the owner’s patience with the tree and the vine dresser’s care for tree are a great picture of God’s patience and Christ’s intercession for his people.
