The Men Who Turned the World Upside Down

Christ gave his church 2 sacraments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Both serve as pictures of how Christ saves us. During this worship service, we got to participate in both. We rejoiced in seeing parents bring their daughter to the waters of baptism as the sign of their faith in God’s Covenant promise to be their God and the God of their offspring (Gen 17:7). Then our pastor preached from Luke 6:12-16 on Christ choosing 12 Apostles from among His disciples. We considered how the preaching and writings of this small band of men turned the ancient world upside. We sang about how their teaching became the foundation upon which Christ built his church using the great hymn, The Church’s One Foundation. We also sing the beautiful Psalm 103, Come My Soul and Bless the Lord, among other selections.
