From Tent to Temple
A Generational Mark of God’s Faithfulness
Why Now
The Vision & Scripture
“the king said to Nathan the prophet, ‘See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.'”
2 Samuel 7:2 (ESV)
Dear Friends,
This is a generational opportunity to move our church from a set up in a school each week — into a beautiful building.
The Lord used the Tabernacle to meet with his people for generations, but even the tabernacle matured into a brick and mortar temple where the Lord met with His people for many more.
Jesus said the church is to be a city on a hill that burns brightly with the light of His Gospel. This is a chance to leave that Gospel light on all week long with evangelism classes during the week, youth group events on Saturdays, and a fellowship hall where we have celebrations. It would be our place to rejoice at weddings and give comfort during funerals.
Just as Israel could point to the Temple and be reminded of God’s past faithfulness, the purchase of this building would be a material reminder of God’s faithfulness to us as individuals and as a church.
How can you support this? Pray. Consider Giving to help us purchase the building.
— Porter Harlow, Pastor
What We’re Building
The Project
Right now, we set up and tear down in a school building every week — faithful, but temporary. Purchasing this building would trade that weekly reset for a permanent home: a place that’s ours every day of the week, not just borrowed for a few hours on Sunday morning. Financially, the timing is strong — trading a monthly rent payment for a mortgage on an owned asset is, in most cases, the better long-term position for a growing church, though the Session and finance committee still need to confirm and present the exact numbers.
Kirkwood Presbyterian Church — the building we hope to call home:
Address: 8336 Carrleigh Pkwy, West Springfield, VA 22152
Why it fits:
- Church buildings rarely come on the market — and when they do, they’re often lost to developers rather than staying places of worship. Purchasing this one keeps it exactly what it was built to be.
- This building was raised up for Presbyterian worship, and buying it lets that same Reformed tradition and confession of faith continue here, under a new congregation, rather than seeing it repurposed for something else entirely.
- Dedicated classrooms and a fellowship hall mean evangelism classes, youth group, and Sunday School no longer compete for one borrowed room — and a hall built for gathering makes space for weddings, funerals, and everything in between.

Where Are We
Financial Goal & Progress
We are doing a short capital campaign to secure a bank loan for the property. Since we are a relatively new church, the bank has told us that we need an additional $300,000 above our down payment to qualify for the loan. They will also favorably consider pledges over the next year(s). If you are in a position to make a donation this month or make a pledge over this year, it all counts toward our overall goal.

Praying Together
Prayer Requests
In the meantime, we're already praying:
- That the Lord would remember the prayers of the saints who built that sanctuary and continue its use as a place of worship.
- That the Lord who owns all the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) would provide the funds we need to purchase and maintain this building.
