A Sabbath Blessing in John 5:1-18
Our sermon passage gave us the opportunity to examine one of the fundamental practices of the Christian church: Sabbath rest and worship. In the passage, Christ heals a man on the Sabbath. In doing so, Christ shows his heart of compassion for those who need healing (both physical and spiritual healing), and the power of His words to bring healing.
We live in the DC area. We are tired people living amongst tired people. The God who created us, and the Savior who knows what it is like to live in our flesh, gives us a day of rest when we gather and come into His presence to hear his healing words read and preached to us. Like a computer that needs to be turned off and turned back on, we come to the Lord’s Day worship to lay aside the stress and weariness of the week. We come to worship, be refreshed, and find our spirits healed. The bulletin is posted here.
