“Do Not Fear!” from Genesis 15:1-6

calendar_today January 8, 2023

On this Sunday, we returned to our study of the faith of Abraham that was paused in November for Advent and Christmas. In this service, we considered the character of Abraham’s Lord who tells him (and us): Fear not.” Many of us come into 2023 with fears and anxieties about how things are going to turn out at work and in our families this year. By faith in Christ, we worship the God who offers to be our “shield” against fears and to be our “great reward” greater than all the world has to offer (Genesis 15:2). By faith in Christ, His righteousness is reckoned to us (and our sin is reckoned to Him) so that we are made right with God.

During this service we sang a diversity of psalms and hymns. We started with Psalm 121, which is thousands of years old, I Lift My Eyes Up to the Hills. Then we sang Only A Holy God written in 2018. We also sang one that fell in between, He Will Hold Me Fast, a hymn with words written in the 19th Century set to a tune composed in the 21st Century. A video of the service is below and the bulletin is posted here.
