“God’s Hand of Providence” in Genesis 37:1-11
Porter, our pastor, preached from Genesis 37:1-11: The beginning of the story of Joseph (of the coat of many colors fame). We all get discouraged when our dream of being in a happy family comes crashing down under the reality of living with sinners in a fallen world. This Sunday we were introduced to the hatred that Joseph’s brothers had for him (and these are the people in God’s chosen family!). Their hatred will lead them to sell Joseph into slavery in Egypt, but, we may find encouragement that the LORD’s hand of providence not only saved Joseph but would save them all from starvation during a worldwide famine—and lead to their eventual reconciliation. Our pastor encouraged us to take heart that the same LORD continues to shepherd our families with his strong hand of Providence so that in the end ALL THINGS will turn out for our good and His glory (See Gen 50:20, Romans 8:28).
