“How may I have eternal life?” Sermon on the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25–37

A lawyer asked Jesus the question: “How may I have eternal life?” Jesus’s answer leads us to understand that we do not obtain eternal life by obeying the law to love our God and neighbor because we have already failed to do that. Eternal life comes by realizing that we are like the man dying on the side of the road, and that the Good Samaritan is like Christ who came to deliver us from death with his sacrificial, costly love.
