Opposition to Christ

calendar_today November 8, 2021

Our pastor preached from the second half of John 15 in which Jesus tells his disciples about the opposition his witnesses will meet in this world. We are thankful to live in a nation where we do not face violent opposition. But Wednesday’s news that the military in Myanmar shot artillery at churches and burned Christian homes and businesses is a reminder that approximately 340 million Christians (1 in 8) experience high levels of persecution. During this service we considered how Christ would have his church react to persecution in the world. Among our hymns, we sang a newer hymn, Your Will Be Done, which serves as a reminder of Christ’s faithful prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane ‘Father, not my will but Yours be done.’ We also sang the traditional hymn, For the Beauty of the Earth, and the new hymn set to a traditional tune, All Glory Be To Christ. A video of the service is below, and the bulletin is posted here.
