The Danger of Self-Made Religion (Colossians 2:16-23) from November 17, 2019
In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul finally gets to the heart of the problem in the new church in Colossae. Visitors have come and added to the Gospel, causing these new Christians to venture into the two pitfalls on each side of the pure Gospel: (1) legalism and rule following and (2) manufacturing spiritual experiences that substitute for real Spiritual formation in their hearts and minds. Paul encourages them to avoid these two pitfalls because they cannot stop them from indulging in their flesh. Instead, they should cling fast to Christ because Christ will nourish their individual faith while knitting all of them together into a new church.
