From a Tent to a Temple
On October 4, Pastor Harlow preached on the humility of God in 2 Samuel 7:1-18, where the Lord who had traveled with His people in a tent answers David’s desire to build Him a house by promising to build David a house instead. We see a God who shares the conditions of His people, cares for their welfare, and graciously accommodates their desire to worship Him. We also see David, a humble king of a humble people, receive God’s blessing, pray “Thy will be done,” and give sacrificially toward a temple he would never see. All of it points us to the humblest of all, Jesus Christ, who dwelt among us, submitted to the Father’s will, and is the true temple in whom we are being built together as God’s dwelling place.
